A year in review 3

My resolution for 2016 was to finish all my unfinished projects and to blog about them. In the end though I actually started and finished more than 20 new projects whilst only finishing two of my unfinished ones! And I did not keep my blog up to date!

I started the year knitting a bonnet and cowl to send to my sister and her partner who were living in Canada.

I then crocheted two blankets, a woven plaid blanket for a woman at the retirement home where my mum works and a chevron baby blanket for a friend of mine who was expecting.

I attended I pottery class where I used a potter’s wheel for the first time. This was something I would have loved to have continued but simply did not have the time for.

I got back into crochet with a Dragon blanket and giraffe for my cousin’s baby. The dragon blanket was from MJ’s Off the Hook Designs using Brava bulky yarn in tranquil and the giraffe was a free ravelry download.

I created a crochet pattern for a T-shirt yarn bowl which I taught at the weekly crochet class I teach for Classie. If you’re a fellow South Australian and want to learn to crochet you can check out available classes at the link above.

Around the middle of the year I crocheted appliques for a friend to use in a craft project of her own. The pattern was from Dam it Janet, let’s crochet and they have got to be the cutest things I have ever made.

I moved back to knitting with a cowl for another friend and mittens for my nephew Ethan. These mittens were my first time working with double pointed needles and I loved making them, I made them using Brava worsted Yarn from Knit Picks and the pattern was Another Pair of Mittens on Ravelry.

I quickly whipped up this beanie for my cousin’s 1st birthday with the base beanie pattern from Repeat Crafter Me and the anchor from Petals to Picots. Yarn was Brava Bulky from Knit Picks.

My nephew Jacob received this corner to corner stag blanket for his birthday (Only a month or so late!) and I am intending to post the pattern soon. Biggest lesson I learnt from this project was making proper yarn estimates, I ran out of yarn 3 times (!) and had to pop back to spotlight again and again.

My brother and his partner announced their pregnancy and I made a little pair of booties to go with their announcement. I also made a chevron quilt and beanie for their baby shower. The beanie pattern was from Etsy using Brava Bulky from Knit Picks and I winged it with the quilt pattern.

I finally finished the cross stitch Christmas stocking for my Nephew Ethan which I started in 2015, but now have a new nephew waiting for a stocking.

I madly crocheted these dinosaurs for my nephews Jacob and Ethan before I left for my trip to the USA.

On our way to the USA I started knitting a jumper for my partner Jon. I was very optimistic that I would finish in time for his Christmas present and he could wear it for our first winter Christmas in New York. Unsurprisingly I finished about a month late, in the height of the Australian summer when he can’t wear it! The pattern is Celtic Ballad by Drops Design and yarn is Swish DK Yarn from Knit Picks in Cobblestone Heather.

Also on our trip across the states, I bought some sock yarn which I intend to use to make something for myself and some quilting fabric, which I don’t have a plan for just yet.

After returning from our trip I finally finished my Mum’s crochet table cloth which I also started in 2015 and has been the largest project I have ever started and finished.

All in all, it has been a very productive year but I will renew my resolution this year to finish all of my unfinished projects. Or at least half!
